The Retirement Living Code of Conduct (the Code) is a voluntary industry code that sets out the standards of conduct for retirement living operators in Australia. The Code was developed by the Retirement Living Council, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, and is designed to promote and maintain high standards of resident safety, wellbeing and satisfaction.
The Code outlines 15 key principles that retirement living operators are expected to adhere to, including principles related to transparency, fairness, respect, safety, and communication. These principles cover a range of areas, including marketing and advertising, contracts and agreements, pricing and fees, and dispute resolution.
By signing up to the Code, retirement living operators commit to upholding these principles and implementing policies and practices that align with the standards set out in the Code. The Code is monitored by an independent Code Administrator, who is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code and investigating any complaints or breaches.
The Retirement Living Code of Conduct is designed to provide a level of assurance to residents and their families that they can expect high standards of conduct and service from retirement living operators in Australia. It aims to promote transparency and accountability in the industry and to encourage retirement living operators to continuously improve their services and practices to meet the changing needs and expectations of residents.
