Anglicare Invests $70 Million in Rooty Hill

on the Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Anglicare is building a $70 million retirement community in Rooty Hill which includes 160 retirement living units and a 90-room residential aged care home.

The new community is the first of its kind for Anglicare where street facing retail outlets, Anglicare welfare services, and other facilities will be available to both the residents and the public.

“Anglicare is creating an “Inside-Out” Village where the community is welcome to use many of the facilities used by residents. This represents a new direction in construction and village development for us. Seniors will not only remain connected to the community and its services, but also have easy access to shops and services without the need for transport. Walking proximity to nearby Rooty Hill railway station provides access to Sydney and beyond,” explains Grant Millard, Anglicare CEO.

“The level site; stairless access to shops and services; and numerous walking paths will support the health, well-being and lifestyle of our residents.”

While Blacktown was once almost exclusively the domain of families and young workers, more than 50,000 people are now over the age of 60 (15% of the population). This represents an increase of almost 10,000 people within this age group between 2011 and 2016

“Older people in the LGA have very few options when it comes to retirement villages or supported independent living accommodation, which allow them to age in place and live within the community for as long as possible,” says Grant Millard.

“This is especially true of the greater Rooty Hill and Mount Druitt areas where 18% of the population is over 60 years of age; but there’s only one small retirement village within a 7 km radius.”

The independent retirement units will be available for lease, with a significant proportion reserved for affordable rental and linked to the age pension rate.

More than 300 part-time and full time jobs will be created, both in the construction phase and in the provision of aged care services, facility management, and complementary service provision.

Significant investment will also go into new retail facilities, restaurants, support services and housing on Rooty Hill Road South.
