Illawarra's M2M Challenge More Age-Friendly

on the Wednesday, July 26, 2017

People of all ages will participate in Greenacres' Mountain to Mountain Challenge, thanks to a new short course being trialled by IRT.

The 13.6km M2M Challenge, now in its third year, is a major fundraising event for Greenacres. Since 2015 participants have raised over $150,000 to support people living with disabilities in the Illawarra. This is the first year that a short course will be trialled.

“The M2M Challenge is a fun day out for a great cause,” said IRT Communities Regional Lifestyle Manager, Nigel Button. “Keeping fit and socially engaged is vital at every age. We wanted to ensure our lifestyle residents had an opportunity to participate.

“Together with Greenacres, we’ve designed a new short course that’s mostly downhill.

“We’ll be bussing people up the Mountain to start our short course from Harry Graham Drive and join full course participants on their descent to the finish line at Mount Kembla.

Nigel has rallied over 20 residents from IRT Links Seaside and Howard Court at IRT Pioneer Place to join in the fun.

“Offering a 6km short course will help to make the M2M Challenge more age-friendly,” he said.

“Older people or people with varying degrees of ability and fitness can now get involved in this fantastic community event.

“We’re really grateful to Greenacres who’ve gone above and beyond to accommodate our residents.”

Registrations for this year’s Greenacres’ M2M Challenge have closed, but you can still donate at www.m2mchallenge.com.au.
