You Can’t Ask That

on the Friday, June 2, 2017

Resident of RSL Care Moreton Shores Retirement Village in Thornlands, Lindsay Boyd has just celebrated his first prime time television interview for the tongue-in-cheek ABC program You Can’t Ask That about what life is like as a Centenarian.

The program aims to break down the stereotypes marginalised or misunderstood members of the community may face in their day-to-day life.

Lindsay shared his life experiences with the country as he gave a moving and sometimes tear jerking interview.

“I still love my wife and I miss her every day and I couldn’t get by without my daughter. I’m independent, I cook a lot of my own meals and I did a load of washing this morning,” he said.

Lindsay spoke about what life was like when he was younger and what have been the most impressive inventions he has even seen.

“We used to have a horse and buggy and ride to school and then motorcars came along. Now we have hearing aids which are the best invention, I couldn’t hear without them,” he said.

“There are now magic phones and the computers are a great thing. My daughter asked the computer where I was born and when and it came up with the right answer. That’s bloody technology for you.”

Lindsay was born in country Victoria and served in the Australian Armed Forces as a runner in World War II, he was in Darwin just after the city was bombed.

“Whatever will be will be I think; we just have to take what we can get. Younger people have it easier today, some of them need to wake up to themselves,” he said.

To this day Lindsay remains very independent in his home and enjoys walking around the village and chatting to his neighbours and especially Moreton Shores Retirement Village Manager, Roger Hunt.

He was delighted with the opportunity to be interviewed and is looking forward to his next big break.

The program airs weekly from Wednesday April through to June on ABC 1 and every episode is also uploaded to ABC iView where they can be watched online iview.abc.net.au/programs/you-cant-ask-that/LE1617H009S00
