Bolton Clarke Milford Grange Supports the World’s Greatest Shave

on the Wednesday, March 22, 2017

The staff and residents of the Bolton Clarke Milford Grange community have supported the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave by shaving, colouring and waxing their hair for the charitable cause.

The festivities began when Residential Manager, Gill Strachan revealed she had shaved her head that morning and was now sporting a super short do to motivate the rest of her team.

“It’s a fantastic charity to support and I am so proud of my team and the residents here who are getting involved either through participating or donating,” she said.

“So far we have raised over $5,000 for blood cancer research and we’ve had a great time doing it.”

Following Gill, 11 team members - Shirley Turner, Sharon Todd, Adelaide Broughton, Sammi Knight, Tracey Wallbank, Tash Bussutil, Kerry Lindquist, Priscilla Sankoh, Tracey Summers, Karen Toro and Marcia Teevan - had their hair coloured in pink, purple, blue, green and orange, with some residents jumping in to help.

They were followed by resident Joy Hood and Mavis Jackson, who had their hair coloured like a rainbow and were delighted with the result.

The boys came next, Maintenance Officer Bill Summers had his beard shaved off and Personal Carer, Rhys Chesser had his legs waxed. Resident Graeme Robertson had a lovely beard trim and claimed he looked 10 years younger as a result.

For the big finale, HomeCare Planner Joanne Scott had her entire head shaved. Her colleagues cheered in approval and even jumped in to cut locks of her hair for extra donations.

The Ipswich aged care site is very community focused and enjoys participating in charitable activities; many of the team members also bring family and their children along to these events.

The World’s Greatest Shave raises vital funds to support the Leukeamia Foundation as blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma. Every day another 35 people will be diagnosed.
