Bundaberg Regional Council Names Beres Mooney Senior Citizen of the Year

Bolton Clarke Fairways retirement community resident Mrs Beres Mooney has been named as the Bundaberg Regional Council’s Senior Citizen of the Year, acknowledging over thirty years of charitable work in the Bundaberg community.

Mrs Mooney has volunteered with the Red Cross since 1984 assisting with medical equipment dispersal and as a volunteer coordinator, fundraising officer and event coordinator.

She also dedicates her time to Diabetes Bundaberg and Diabetes Queensland as Secretary and Treasurer.

Bundaberg Mayor, Mr Jack Dempsey officially presented the Senior Citizen of the Year award to Mrs Mooney at an afternoon tea at her home in the Fairways Retirement Village on Thursday 2 February.

She was nominated for the award by her fellow residents in the village and Village Manager Jude Riley.

“Beres is a remarkable and inspiring woman who has incredible passion and energy for life and giving back to her community, she is a valued member of the village and we are all lucky to say we know her,” Ms Riley said.

The Bundaberg Regional Council, Senior Citizen of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievement by a senior resident who displays ongoing excellence in their field and in the community, demonstrating leadership and innovation whilst contributing to the development of the Bundaberg Region.
