Furnishing a Comfortable Future

on the Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Two local Boonah businesses have partnered to showcase the best in retirement living. Churches of Christ Care’s Fassifern Retirement Village has joined with Boonah Furniture Court to furnish a display unit with some of the latest looks.

Retirement Living Manager Maureen Wilson said she was excited to be able to bring the popup furniture gallery together for the village open day.

“Our village is well established with lots of long term residents, some of which brought their existing furniture and some that took the opportunity to update.” Ms Wilson said.

“What this special display unit shows is the difference that modern and comfortable furniture can make to the wellbeing of retirees.”

Furniture Court owners David and Tina Holdorf said they were proud to support the Fassifern village.

“Our store has been a part of the Boonah community for 24 years, extending our business to Ipswich five years ago, and we are always happy to support local seniors,” Mr Holdorf said.

“We hope by displaying some of the latest trends in furnishing encourages some retirees to take advantage of both the village and some functional furniture purchases.”

According to Ms Wilson, the furniture on display is not only attractive, but also durable and functional, suitable for the changing needs of retirees, including reducing the risk of falls. She recommended a homely yet functional approach to home decorating for seniors.

“Things like floor rugs should be minimised to reduce trip hazards and tables with rounded edges can also minimise the risk of injuries,” she said.

“Two of my best tips would be to invest in a good recliner chair that has a lift function and ensure retirees have plenty of storage space, particularly if they are downsizing.”

The display villa is currently available for viewing until the end of this month.

“Our units are beautifully appointed in neutral colours, spacious open plan living,” Ms Wilson said.

“All maintenance and gardens are maintained by caring staff who between them, have nearly 30 years of experience in Retirement Living.”

Leading not-for-profit seniors living provider Churches of Christ Care operates Fassifern Retirement Village and the adjoining Fassifern Aged Care Service. Both seniors living services are co-located with the Boonah Church of Christ, off Coronation Drive.
