DIY Herb Gardens Perfect for Small Spaces

on the Thursday, June 2, 2016

If you live in a retirement village or independent living unit or apartment, these compact and functional DIY herb gardens are perfect for small backyards, courtyard spaces, balconies and even the kitchen bench.

1. Mason Jar Wall Planters

If you don’t have a whole lot of space for a herb garden, these mason jar wall planters are ideal. They’re relatively inexpensive to make and the supplies you need (pieces of wood, hose clamps, mason jars and of course potting mix and seedlings) can be found at most home improvement stores.

2. Metal Tub Herb Gardens

If you love to explore garage sales and local markets on the weekend, keep an eye out for some old metal buckets and tubs. These make ideal planters for not only herbs, but also flowers and vegetables. They don’t take up much space and are easy to move around.

3. Clothes Peg Planters

If you are growing your herbs indoors, you can smarten up a boring looking planter using regular household items. These gorgeous planters are made using tin cans and stained wooden clothes pegs.

 4. Tiered Herb Gardens

A tiered herb garden like this is perfect for a balcony or patio area. All you need to make are some simple wooden boxes and voila! They’re also ideal for beautiful colourful flowers.
