Facebook Campaign Promotes ANZAC Day Online

What does Anzac Day mean to you? That's the question national seniors' lifestyle and care provider IRT Group is asking Facebook users this Anzac Day.

In a novel campaign featuring videos and photos of IRT residents and Victoria Cross recipient Daniel Keighran VC, Facebook users are being encouraged to share their thoughts on the significance of April 25.

"Many of our 8000 customers have had their lives touched by war, either serving in the armed forces themselves or experiencing the impact of war on their family or community," said IRT Chief Executive, Nieves Murray.

"As the years go by they worry that the sacrifice of previous generations and the true meaning of Anzac Day will be forgotten.

"That's why we're asking Facebook users to tell us what Anzac Day means to them. It's a way to put the social media spotlight on April 25," Ms Murray said.

According to the 2015 Sensis social media report, Australians under 40 are the biggest cohort of Facebook users and almost 80% of 18-29 year olds use social media daily.

"Our 'What does Anzac Day mean to you?' campaign will enable us to reach out to younger Australians online and give older Australians a way to share their wisdom this Anzac Day," said Ms Murray.

"After all, Facebook's not only for the young; 37% of 50-64 year olds use social media sites every day."
