5 Reasons to Love Being Retired

on the Monday, April 18, 2016

When you eventually decide to retire, there is one important thing to remember – retirement isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning!

You can choose to make your retirement lifestyle as adventurous or laidback as you want. We’ve come up five great things about being retired. What else would you add to this list? Let us know by commenting here!

No more morning commute

One of the joys of being retired is no longer having to endure the morning commute to the office. You have more flexibility to avoid being out on the road during peak traffic times which will help reduce stress. You have the ability to do the shopping at 9am when most people are at work or catch and early-bird showing of a movie at your local theatre.

Discounts

One of the great perks of being of retirement age is the amount of discounts available to you. You can ride the train or bus for a lower fare, get discount movie tickets or even enjoy lower priced meals at your favourite restaurant or café. It never hurts to ask if businesses offer a senior discount – especially places such as hotels. You may even be able to get discounted tickets to events such as theatre productions.

Say goodbye to the alarm clock

No one likes being woken by their alarm. While you may never be able to give up the alarm clock for good, being retired means that you have more flexibility – being able to wake up on your own terms. No more rushing. You can decide to wake up at 5am or 9am – it’s up to you!

Increased self-confidence

Once you reach a certain age, you learn to not care about what other people think. You have more courage and confidence than you did when you were younger. After years of experience, you have learnt to speak up and not be afraid to go after what you want.

Spending more time with family and friends

Working full-time means you only have limited time to catch up with your friends and family. One of the best things about being retired is the flexibility you have to catch up with your friends and family whenever you want. Mid-week lunches with your girlfriends from Bridge, late morning walks with your oldest friend and early afternoon visits with your grandchildren. The days are free to spend as much quality time with your loved ones as you can.
