Uniting Big Move 2016: Dance Against Dementia

on the Wednesday, March 23, 2016

On 30 March, 2016 crowds will gather on the steps of the Sydney Opera House to participate in the 2016 Uniting Big Move dance against dementia to raise awareness of the importance of staying active as we get older.

Now in its third year, the Uniting Big Move will make a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt for the Largest Macarena Dance. The number to beat is 2,219 – a record currently held by Eggbuckland Community college in Plymouth, set on 7 July 2011.

Sandra Black from Uniting said “We’re calling on everyone who’s young, and young at heart to join in the fiesta fun and raise awareness of Australia’s number one most debilitating condition – dementia.”

Hosts Jono Coleman and Alana Patience will lead the charge, teaching the crowd the Macarena dance moves, in preparation to take on the record, showcasing the importance of movement in tackling dementia.

“Chances are dementia will affect you or someone you love at some point. Today 1.2 million Australians are already touched by it. That’s why Uniting is leading the dance against dementia to show the importance of taking action now,” Sandra Black said.

Uniting Big Move events will be held in venues across NSW. More than 10,000 people of all ages are expected to participate.
