5 Fun Part-Time Jobs for Retirees

on the Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Retirement is all about taking it easy after years of hard work. But it doesn’t mean we need to stop everything! Part time jobs are a great way to make some extra cash and also find a sense of fulfillment and fun.

A part-time job is also a great way to stay involved in your local community and keep your mind and body healthy and active.

If you’re not sure what types of part time jobs appeal most to you, think back to what you loved doing when you were younger. Here are a few ideas to spark your imagination:

Craft Making

There’s a huge market for handmade items such as soap, knitting, candles and other artisan goods. If you love making things with your hands, you can sell your goods at the local market or on websites like Etsy.

Gardening

If you love gardening, there are plenty of ways that you can use your skills to earn a little pocket money. You could grow herbs, make lavender pillows or even dry the herbs and sell them in packets. Selling locally grown plants and vegetables to your neighbours or even small shops is also a great idea.

Write

If you have some writing skills, becoming a freelance writer is a great way to spend your retirement. Writing is one of the best part time jobs for retirees because you can do the work from anywhere and on your own schedule. You may even have some ideas for a novel or children’s book – they sky is the limit!

Start a Blog

You can share information and build a community with people from all over the world who share your interests. If you have an abundance of knowledge about something, why not share it! As an added bonus, you can earn money by advertising and selling merchandise via your website.

Non-Profit Work

As we get older, many of us want to do something meaningful and give back to our communities. Volunteering your time to a non-profit organisation is a great part time retirement job. Who knows, once you’ve been a volunteer you may be able transition into paid work!
