Regency Residents Jumping for Joy

A group of Warwick locals have drawn on inspiration from Native Americans and a bohemian past for their tribute to Jumpers and Jazz. Over 30 residents from Churches of Christ Care’s Regency Park Retirement Village joined together to create a feature tree complete with life size models.

Villagers including Julie Grayson gathered together donated materials and handcrafted dozens of Native American-inspired dreamcatchers. These along with scarves, blankets and other winter woollies were then proudly displayed in bohemian fashion on the village tree.

“Most of the village was involved in putting the creation together.” Ms Grayson said. “We’ve been doing this every year for the past four or five years, it gets everybody together as part of an extended community.”

Retirement Living Manager Chris Newley said that group activities like crafting for Jumpers and Jazz tribute demonstrate what can be achieved by like-minded social residents.

“The craft group along with other resident volunteers plan and make the decorations and then come together as a group to decorate the tree,” Mr Newley said. “This is the best one yet!”  

The number of village residents will soon be increasing with a limited eight unit release to be unveiled at a Seniors Week open day on Wednesday 17 August. Leading not-for-profit seniors living provider Churches of Christ Care has developed eight new units as part of a multimillion dollar extension to Regency Park Retirement Village.

The new dwellings add to the village’s existing 91 units with all enjoying a country resort style feel while having access to a variety of seniors’ friendly activities and services. Mr Newley said that Warwick in winter is one of his favourite places to be at this time of year.

“Winter time at Regency Park highlights the warm colours throughout the landscape,” he said. “The deciduous trees have dropped their leaves on the ground leaving a contrast of auburn colours on the pale lawns.”

Churches of Christ Care ensures that winter is filled with activities at the village.

“We have soup lunch days, Jumpers and Jazz street walks to admire the trees, Art Gallery exhibition tours, movie afternoons in our Community Centre and Seniors Week activities to keep everyone entertained,” Mr Newley said.
