As a thriving regional community, the
Barossa is known internationally for its premium quality
wines, excellent food and bustling wine and tourism
industry.
The area is rapidly gaining recognition for its
innovative approach to retirement housing and care, with
the construction of more than 200 new retirement
Cottages in the next ten years set to make the Barossa a
new centre for retirement living in South Australia.
The Cottages are being built by Barossa Village, a local
not-for-profit organisation that has provided aged
accommodation and services for more than 40 years.
Many retirees are finding that their large family homes
and Country properties are becoming too much work, and
are looking for something more manageable that suits
their desire to have more time and energy to enjoy life
with family and friends.
A new $9.5 million Residency on John Atze Parade at
Nuriootpa provides High and Low Residential Care
supporting those in the local community with this level
of need. Many more people are provided with care and
services through Barossa Village’s Community Services
Department’s Community Aged Care Packages and Extended
Care at Home Packages (including those for people with
dementia) and a range of other programmes.

As many people are isolated socially from others in
their own communities in the rural towns of the Barossa,
the Lifestyle Club and other activity programmes are an
important link with other people. These services are
provided in the Lodge at Nuriootpa.
