The Retirement Village Association (RVA)
is the peak national body representing 350+ members
consisting of retirement village operators, managers,
owners, developers, investors and industry specialists
across Australia. Industry specialists represent diverse
business groups from major banking and financial
institutions, national law, accountancy and evaluation
firms to service and product providers.
The RVA is a national body that works to represent,
protect and promote the interests of it members and
their associated services.
The principle objectives of the RVA are to establish and
maintain standards for all participants in the industry
and to represent members with a shared vision for
providing quality services.
In order to achieve these objectives the Association
demands its members’ |
 |
to operate their villages in a
professional manner and with the highest level of
commercial integrity.
Standards
The Australian Retirement Villages Association scheme is
based on criteria that sets standards for retirement
village environments and practices. To be accredited,
villages must be independently assessed as having
reached these standards and judged to be striving for
quality outcomes.
Lobbying and Representation
RVA operates regional bases across Australia, together
with an affiliation with Aged Care Queensland. All
states have recently undergone or are in the process of
reviewing each states Retirement Villages Act, where
each RVA region is actively involved in representing its
members’ views to government.
National Conference
Held in November the Associations national conference is
a premier annual event that delivers a high caliber
program, with relevant speakers, which in 2005 included
Minister for Ageing Julie Bishop MP, David Koch of
Channel 7’s Sunrise as well as a host of industry
professionals discussing all aspects of the retirement
living industry issues and developments. 504 delegates
interspersed networking opportunities with a trade
exhibition over two days, and RVA expects delegate
numbers to exceed 600 this November.
Professional Development
RVA recognises its role to provide quality educational
services to all levels of staff employed in the
industry. The professional development program includes
specific industry related courses and a variety of
seminars, forums, lectures, workshops and other
educational activities to support quality management and
operation of villages.
